“Learn from Suffering”
The hardest times in life can be the biggest teachers. Hard times can break some people but for most people hard times can offer the opportunity to reach a level of higher functioning. Dietrich Bonhoeffer says “We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.“
Viktor Frankl, a psychologist who was imprisoned in concentration camps during World War 2, explained that humans can find meaning in life through suffering. It can create purpose in life. Nobody wants to suffer, but we can’t control our circumstances. We can only choose how to react. When you suffer, you gain perspective. When you break your arm, you suddenly become grateful for its use when you recover.
